This has been a disastrous World Cup for Africa and not a very good one for Europe. While France and Italy have crashed out and England have stumbled, Holland have moved smoothly through the gears with each performance slightly better than the last. This victory against a Cameroon side that was only too ready to wave the white flag, featured two gorgeously worked goals from Robin van Persie and then Arjen Robben, who was brought on for his first appearance in South Africa with 18 minutes remaining. Cameroon departed a tournament in which they were expected to shine without a point and with a final dressing-room bust-up between Alex Song and manager, Paul Le Guen, who is expected to take charge of Australia, after masterminding this dismal campaign.
